El Bekkali, the golden kid.

Moroccans never ceased to honor and triumph every field they lay foot in. Sofiane El Bekkali has triumphed by raising the Moroccan flag in the US air and hanging gold around his neck. History was made, once again, by the “legs” of Soufiane El Bekkali after bringing home the gold medal on the 19th of July in the World Athletics Championships that are currently held at Hayward field in Eugene, US. Soufiane El Bekkali had some unfinished business in Eugene, US. Back in 2014, the Moroccan runner placed fourth at the World Junior Championship, so that he can come back to settle the score with the gold medal in the men’s 3.000m steeplechase, with timing of 8:25.13 ahead of Lamecha Girma and Conseslus Kipruto. Since the 2016 Rio Olympics, there has been some noticeable improvements to El Bekkali’s personal best, after winning a silver medal at the 2017 London’s and the bronze medal at the 2019 World Athletics championships that were held at Doha, Qatar. After a lot of hard work and discipline, El Bekkali finally managed to earn his first ever gold medal at 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics, ahead of Lamecha Girma and Benjamin Kigen. Making him the first non-Kenyan born athlete to win a gold medal at the Olympics or World Championships since 1987.
