Women throughout history ...

To be a woman is one of the greatest blessings in the world, moreover, being inspired by one is what makes me proud the most. Women gave so much to this world, besides being the life barrier, the war home and the caring heart of every family, many were able to make a change in the world, despite being, at first, out-ruled and belittled. Though times have changed, we must always cherish the ones that struggled to make a better life for us, as the fight continues until today. As for today is women’s day, here are some women that changed the world. -Susan B. Anthony A woman that stood against all odds, an advocate for women’s suffrage, women’s property rights, and the abolition of slavery. In 1872, to challenge suffrage, Anthony tried to vote in the 1872 presidential election and was arrested. While Anthony was never able to legally vote, the 19th amendment, ratified in 1920, was named the “Susan B. Anthony Amendment.” -Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf  Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf took office as the president of Liberia in January 2006, becoming the first elected woman head of state in Africa. She signed a Freedom of Information bill (the first of its kind in West Africa) and made a reduction of the national debt a cornerstone of her presidency. To investigate crimes committed during Liberia’s civil war, she established a Truth and Reconciliation Commission. As a result, she became a global icon with her commitment to fighting dictators, corruption, and poverty through the empowerment of women and girls. -Dr. Mae Jemison  an American physician is the first African American female astronaut. She was accepted to NASA’s astronaut training program in 1987. Five years later, she became the first African American woman in space as a science mission specialist aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour. -Jane Austin was an English novelist known primarily for her six major novels, which interpret, critique, and comment upon the British landed gentry at the end of the 18th century. Austen's plots often explore the dependence of women on marriage in the pursuit of favorable social standing and economic security. .Her use of biting irony, along with her realism, humor, and social commentary, have long earned her acclaim among critics, scholars, and popular audiences alike. She took part in the rise of realism/novels. Not to mention all the women who are now country leaders, prime ministers, women who flew an airplane and lead huge movements, women who made peace, and women that made us, waking up every day, baking and cooking, raising and teaching and working, all for the sake of their children, women who made.. powerful creatures, who broke thousands of bones and went through hell and back for us to be. Happy women’s day, to all our future writers, warriors, moms, queens, presidents… In the honor of my beloved mom… for she fought tooth and bone for me to become who I am today.
