It’s the 27th of January and the month shall not pass by with no surprises, On Dec. 24, 2020, Moroccan Health Minister Khalid Ait Taleb announced that the North African country has secured the acquisition of 66 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine from two suppliers, China's Sinopharm and Britain's Oxford University and AstraZeneca: The first batch includes 500,000 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine developed by the Chinese laboratory, and Morocco has already ordered around 50 million doses, this is the second batch of vaccines to arrive in Morocco. Last Friday, two million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine has been received from India and has already begun to be distributed to the various regions of Morocco.
The minister informed that more than 3,000 vaccination points have been set up, Institutions such as the Ibn Rochd University Hospital, which has 6,000 health professionals, will be censorious to contribute to the success of Morocco’s vaccination efforts, he explained. As was mentioned by King Mohammed V, the vaccination campaign will start on the 29th of January, aiming at the people 18 years older and more, the plan is to vaccinate 25 million people, starting with frontliners, including health workers, security forces, teachers and people in vulnerable health condition. This will require 50 million doses to guarantee collective immunity, the vaccine is at large, free of charge!
The people in consideration, including foreigners residing in Morocco, can request an appointment for the vaccination online, or by sending an SMS, as they will be contacted with a date in hand, for Sinopharm, Two shots are required with an interval of 21 days and 28 days for AstraZeneca.
